What Remains
What remains
after a loss—
heart stopped,
breath cut,
mind refusing
what appears real.
What remains
when the dream
tucked in your pocket
disappears
for lack of air,
for lack of light.
What remains
when parenthood
takes the road
that zigs,
that zags,
that doubles back
on itself.
What remains
when the one
you committed your life to
reaches a fork
along the path.
What remains
when you catch your own reflection
and don't recognize
the toll of the years.
What remains
when you learn
the betrayer
wasn't the world,
wasn't your partner,
your child,
your parents,
your siblings,
your teacher,
your employer,
your best friend
the world-
it was you.
The one
who forgot yourself.
Who believed the fear.
Who mistook survival
for living.
What remains
when that truth
gets too loud
to ignore.
What remains
is...you.
Still standing.
What remains
is today—
yet to unfold.
Waiting
for the new shift
that will shape it.
What remains
is the quiet
that was beneath
the noise
all along.
What remains
is seeing
the zigzag road
was never against you—
only leading you
around the bend
your eyes
could not yet see
What remains
is a different point
of perception.
And suddenly,
a fresh breeze...
What remains
is the beginning—
again,
and again,
and again.
